Proof Twenty Cent Pieces
1878 20C PR64 Cameo NGC. BF-1, R.3. This was the second proof-only and final issue in the four-year twenty cent series. A single pair of dies was used to manufactured 600 proofs in 1878. All show a small, raised die lump right of the shield. Each side of this marvelous Choice specimen is largely brilliant with elements of powder-blue, tan-gold, and green. The delicate patina fails to inhibit stark field-motif contrast throughout. Very scarce this fine. Census: 20 in 64 Cameo, 23 finer (2/17).
