Morgan Dollars
1893 $1 MS62 Deep Mirror Prooflike ANACS. The 1893 Morgan dollar is an elusive date in the context of the series, due to the small mintage of 378,000 pieces. Production totals were down at all the U.S. mints in 1893, and the coins were not well-produced as a general rule. The 1893 is known for weak strikes and excessive bagmarks, and the issue is particularly rare with prooflike surfaces.
The present coin is a welcome exception to the rule, as the design elements are well-detailed and the surfaces show a scattering of minor contact marks, all consistent with the grade. The fields are deeply reflective, in contrast to the frosty devices, and display hints of champagne-gold and lavender toning.
