Coins of Hawaii
1886 12.5C Grove Ranch Plantation 12 1/2 Cent Token XF45 PCGS. Medcalf TE-16. A large sugar cane plantation, the Grove Ranch was located on the island of Maui, a dozen miles east of Wailuku. Rare one-bit tokens were struck in copper in 1886 and 1887, probably onsite by a blacksmith. The present deep mahogany-brown example appears nearly void of contact and carbon. It is clashed through the fraction, and shows minor incompleteness of strike on the date. Shifted double struck, evident on the stars and other elements. Listed on page 421 of the 2017 Guide Book. Population: 5 in 45, 9 finer (2/17).
