Cuba Junta Central Republicana de Cuba y Puerto Rico 10 Pesos 17.8.1869 Pick 63. During the Ten Years War (1868-1878) New York City served as home for a number of groups interested in independence for Cuba and Puerto Rico. Jose Marti's Cuban Revolutionary Party, for example, had an office in the city and, after his death, the office was maintained there by the exiled future President of Cuba, Tomas Estrada Palma. This note was issued by a similar New York-based group whose goals were apparently to wrest both Cuba and Puerto Rico from Spanish control. Shortly after the commencement of the Ten Year War, notes were issued on August 17, 1869 by the Junta Central Republicana de Cuba y Puerto Rico, a military revolutionist group based in New York to raise funds for the liberation of Cuba and Puerto Rico from Spain. The President of the Junta was a Cuban, José Morales Lemus, and his Secretary was a Puerto Rican, Dr. José Francisco Basora. They were arrested in June 1869 for violating the neutrality laws of the United States. The 10 Peso denomination is rare and is unpriced in the SCWPM in grades above Fine. PMG grades this example About Uncirculated 55. From The EMO Collection HID08701242017

Estimate: 5000-7000 USD
