Potosi, Bolivia, cob 8 reales, Philip II, assayer B (1st period, "Lima style"), ex-Craig. S-P4; KM-5.1; CT-139 (under Lima). 27.17 grams. Choice fine style with tiny-dot borders, well-detailed full shield and cross-lions-castles, AXF with one peripheral flat spot, nicely toned but with dark streak and orange sediment in places. Not enough legend is visible to determine whether there is an H at the beginning of HISPANIARVM or not, but the rampant style of lions on the reverse of this coin is usually matched with a no-H obverse for this period. Pedigreed to the Freeman Craig auction of March 31, 1981, with original lot-tag #182. (Estimate: $350 - 500)
