1652 6PENCE Oak Tree Sixpence, IN on Obverse AU50 NGC. CAC. Noe-20, W-400, Salmon 2-B, R.6. 33.8 grains. A glossy, aged-silver example, the inscriptions complete although characteristically weak at the top of the first S in MASATHVSETS. N of IN is reversed. More accurately centered than most examples of the Noe-20, with the obverse slightly displaced toward 2 o'clock and the reverse well-centered. The date is centered and features the diagnostic Tall 65. W in NEW ENGLAND is wide and thick at the first and third strokes. Noe-20 is a rare variety (R.6), often struck on cut-down Oak shillings, although it is undetermined if that is the case with the present example. We have seldom offered a finer example of the variety.
