Atamyrat Nyýazov was the father of the first President of Turkmenistan, Saparmurat Niyazov. He was a school teacher, a financial worker, and soldier of the Great Patriotic War. He was a member of the 535 Guards Regiment, 2nd Guards Division and a squad commander. On December 24, 1942 he died during heavy fighting for the Caucasus in Chikola, North Ossetia.
