1787 CENT Massachusetts Cent, Arrows in Left Talon MS65 Brown NGC. Ryder 4-D, W-6110, High R.3. When we cataloged the Partrick specimen that was graded MS64 Brown NGC, we noted that we felt it was the finest known of the variety, but here is a finer MS65 Brown NGC example that combines chestnut-brown surfaces and traces of mint red with delicate blue overtones on each side. The strike is sharper than the Partrick coin, and the surfaces are exceptional. Three examples in the Ford Collection graded no finer than AU. This early die state piece has no reverse die cracks that are sometimes seen on the Ryder 4-D. We are confident in stating that this piece is the finest known, and it will make an excellent addition to a specialized collection of Massachusetts copper coinage. Listed on page 61 of the 2018 Guide Book.
