Our nation's first regular issue copper coin was the Chain cent, struck in March 1793, and the first of five varieties was the Chain AMERI. cent, known as S-1 and B-1. This piece has minor rim damage and slight roughness on its dark brown surfaces. The obverse has a full date and LIBERTY with a partially outlined bust. The reverse has a bold chain as usual, with a complete denomination, and partial legend. A pleasing example, nonetheless, and worthy of strong bidding competition. Our EAC grade Fair 2.
