Proof Flying Eagle Cents
1856 1C Snow-3 PR62 PCGS. According to Rick Snow, the Snow-3 variety comprises approximately 20% of all 1856 Flying Eagle cents seen. Recutting on the 5 in the date is a distinctive die feature that this variety shares with Snow-1 and -10. Snow further writes: " ...it is nearly certain that this issue makes up most or all of the 634 specimens originally distributed to Congress to help promote the passage of the pending coinage bill." This proof example shows the typical satiny luster but with above-average sharpness on the eagle's feathers and the wreath. Tan-gold surfaces have only light handling marks that limit the grade.
