Proof Seated Half Dimes
1856 H10C PR66+ NGC. Ex: Garrett. V-2, with the date closer to the base than to the rim, and the 1 well left of the shield point. This splendid Plus-designated Premium Gem proof features gold, russet, and olive shading over well-struck devices and mirrored fields. The smallest details are fully delineated, with separation clear on the bowknot and the hair of Liberty. The depth of the reverse lettering is exceptional, and this is complemented by the obverse stars, which emerge strongly from the glassy fields. Pre-1858 proof coinage is one of the most challenging areas of American numismatics, but this well-pedigreed and attractive Gem is one of the more accessible pieces in the series, suitable for an advanced half dime or proof type collection.
