Proof Twenty Cent Pieces
1877 20C PR63 PCGS. BF-1, R.3. Light, iridescent toning deepens at the borders with shades of lilac, blue, almond-gold, and pale violet visible over the reflective surfaces. A few delicate lines beneath the pleasing patina define the Select Proof grade. Just 510 pieces were struck of this proof-only issue, of which many were melted as unsold. As a result, the 1877 issue is considerably scarcer than the 1878 proofs (also a proof-only date). Sharply struck except at Liberty's upper hair strands, with a lint mark in the left obverse field above Liberty's shoulder. Population: 77 in 63, 98 finer (4/17).
