Seated Quarters
1852-O 25C AU50 PCGS. Briggs 1-A. Vertical die lines connect the arrow shafts. This example of the rare 1852-O quarter shares the same reverse as the Briggs 1-A 1851-O quarter. While the Briggs commentary that the 1852-O is "rare to nonexistent in grades XF or finer" is perhaps slightly overstated, the rarity of this New Orleans issue cannot be denied. The present About Uncirculated coin displays pale golden-gray toning over reflective and partially lustrous surfaces. We note a few light field lines and a tiny dot of deep-toned residue above the eagle's head. Seldom offered and well-defined for the grade, with characteristic rounded rims and tremendous appeal for date and mint collectors. Housed in a first-generation "old rattler" holder. Population: 3 in 50, 4 finer (4/17).
