Seated Half Dollars
1862-S 50C MS65 NGC. WB-102, Die Pair 4, R.3. The obverse has die lines below Liberty's chin, and elsewhere, suggesting an important Late Die State example. A die line through the N of UNITED is clearly visible, and additional die lines are visible in the lower right reverse field. Prominent clash marks in the lower right part of the shield on the reverse are not mentioned for this variety, although similar clash marks are described for some other varieties of this issue. This lovely Gem has delicate champagne toning on its frosty and full lustrous obverse surfaces. Both sides have bold design motifs. An exceptional example and one of the finest known examples of the die pair. Census: 1 in 65, 0 finer (5/17).
