Proof Morgan Dollars
1880 $1 PR67 Cameo PCGS. We have pointed out many times before that any Gem proof Morgan dollar is a condition rarity, and that obviously applies far more so to this Superb Gem Cameo 1880-dated proof, one of 27 submissions (certainly not all separate coins) in this grade (two in MS67 ★, two in MS67+) with 17 finer at NGC (4/17). This is not an untoned proof; au contraire, both sides are toned, but from quite different palettes. The center obverse is silver with concentric sunset-orange, fire-red, and cobalt-blue, the reverse showing pale pastel tones moving in horizontal bands from top to bottom, smoke-gray, rose, and the palest jade hue imaginable. The contrast and eye appeal are absolutely stunning.
