Gold Dollars
1853 G$1 MS66 PCGS. More than 4 million gold dollars were struck by the Philadelphia Mint in 1853, by far the largest mintage of the series. This example shows faint die clashing but only minor die wear at the borders. The centers are razor-sharp -- especially the portrait -- with vertical striations that radiate mint luster. The lemon-gold surfaces show pleasing orange and rose-gold accents. Marks are few, with an oval of grease that was struck into the reverse at the time of manufacture between N and I of UNITED.
