Early Half Eagles
1803/2 $5 BD-3, R.4, AU53 NGC. Two obverse dies are known for the 1803 half eagle coinage, and both dies are 1803/2 overdates. This obverse die has the 3 separated from the bust. Bass-Dannreuther Die State e/a has a faint die crack through the stars at the left obverse, with no indication of the later reverse die crack. This piece is light yellow with hints of green overtones, exhibiting minor grade-consistent marks. Luster remains in the protected areas.
