Liberty Half Eagles
1840 $5 Narrow Mill MS62 PCGS. While not a rare coin in the absolute sense, with lower grade specimens always being available, in Mint State condition, the 1840 is a significant coin and well worth the attention of specialists. The strike on this piece is noteworthy with all the details fully brought up including the characteristically weak eagle's left leg. The fields show die striations which have in turn imparted a bright semi-prooflikeness to each side. There are a number of small abrasions in the fields that limit the grade, but none that deserve singular mention. Population: 7 in 62 (1 in 62+), 4 finer (4/17).
