Liberty Eagles
1879-CC $10 -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. VF. Variety 1-A. The Carson City Mint struck only 1,762 ten dollar gold pieces in 1879, marking the lowest mintage in the series from that mint. Fewer than 60 coins are believed to survive in all grades. The last problem-free VF example that we handled was a VF30 PCGS coin in lot 4987 of our September 2012 Long Beach Signature sale, which realized $17,625. The present coin is lightly cleaned but is otherwise a visually pleasing and well-detailed representative that will appeal to the budget-conscious collector. Smooth olive-gold surfaces show grade-consistent wear with no other mentionable characteristics.
