Liberty Double Eagles
1875-CC $20 MS62 NGC. Variety 2-B. The 1875-CC Liberty double eagle is the archetypal branch mint type coin. With a reported mintage of 111,151 pieces and a relatively high survival rate, the 1875-CC is the most available Type Two double eagle from the Carson City Mint and the easiest to locate in Mint State condition. That being said, the 1875-CC becomes scarce at the MS62 grade level and finer coins are rare.
The present coin is an attractive MS62 specimen, with well-detailed design elements that exhibit just a touch of softness on Liberty's hair and some star centers. The colorful orange-gold surfaces show the expected number of minor contact marks for the grade, with especially vibrant mint luster on sides. Overall eye appeal is quite strong. NGC has graded 26 numerically finer examples (5/17).
