Liberty Double Eagles
1884-CC $20 MS62 PCGS. Variety 1-A. As a date, the 1884 Carson City issue is readily available compared to other CC-Mint double eagles. As always, bagmarks are a concern, but a lens reveals only occasional tiny marks and abrasions on this frosty, sharply struck twenty. Liberty's hair strands and bun detail are complete, while essentially full details accompany the frosty, minimally marked reverse.
The mint luster is fantastic on both sides of the coin. Orange and rose-gold highlights capture the light, while the surfaces radiate sun-gold brilliance. It is worth noting PCGS reports just six numerically finer coins, all at the MS63 level. Population: 71 in 62, 6 finer (4/17).
