Liberty Double Eagles
1888-S $20 MS65 NGC. Although the 1888-S is among the most often seen S-mint double eagles from the decade, it is extremely rare in MS65. In fact, our records suggest that this is one of only two Gems certified at NGC and PCGS combined. The NGC Census records three MS65 grading events, but one of those is a resubmission. In accordance with its top-rated status, this amazing twenty dollar gold piece is undoubtedly deserving of a premium bid.
Spectacular mint frost issues from delightful rose and peach-gold surfaces. The fields are exceptionally clean, while the cheek shows a few faint, wispy marks. Stars 1 to 3 are incomplete, though the others are nearly fully defined. Liberty's hair strands and the eagle's feathers are similarly well-impressed. A top-quality example sure to be a highlight in even the finest collection of Liberty Head double eagles.
