Liberty Double Eagles
1893-CC $20 AU58 NGC. CAC. Variety 1-A. The 1893-CC Liberty double eagle was struck in small numbers, but the issue has a high survival rate. A significant portion of the mintage was used in foreign trade and a surprising number of coins have been recovered from European and Central American sources in recent years. Two die varieties are known for the date. This coin represents Variety 1-A, with the B in JBL centered over the 8 in the date. The 1893-CC was struck during the final year of operations at the Carson City Mint, an important consideration for type purposes.
The present coin shows just a trace of wear on the high points of the well-detailed design elements. The pleasing orange-gold surfaces are lightly abraded and retain much original mint luster. The overall presentation is quite attractive.
