Liberty Double Eagles
1893-CC $20 MS62 ANACS. Variety 2-A. The 1893-CC twenty is a curious issue with a low mintage, only 18,402 pieces, and a relatively high availability. This is primarily from the export of a substantial portion of the mintage to Europe. This is a highly appealing example of this final-year Carson City issue, with frosty green-gold luster and sharply struck design elements. Close scrutiny with a loupe reveals some faint interruptions in the luster on Liberty's cheek, likely what precluded ANACS from awarding this piece a finer grade, as the surfaces are devoid of the noticeable abrasions and deep cuts that typically affect gold pieces at this level. Numerically finer examples are rare.
