1870 10C Standard Silver Dime, Judd-865, Pollock-954, High R.7, PR66 Cameo PCGS. On the obverse, the head of Liberty wears a starless diadem with a plain ribbon encircling her hair. The reverse shows 10 CENTS in the center, surrounded by a thick wreath of oak and laurel. STANDARD SILVER is above at the rim, 1870 below. Struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. Fewer than a half dozen examples are known of this variant. This design was also struck in silver and copper along with the aluminum; all had plain and reeded edge pieces struck. Struck from highly polished dies, the devices show the deep mint frost usually seen on aluminum patterns. Very little is seen in the way of oxidation or other problems inherent in aluminum strikings.
