Bust Half Dollars
1827 50C Square Base 2, O-120a, R.3, MS64 PCGS. CAC. A series of horizontal die scratches to the left of the date beneath the bust identifies the obverse, while die cracks at the top of UNITED STATES confirms the late die state of O-120a. This variety is very scarce in an earlier die stage and moderately scarce in the present state of the reverse die. Slate-gray surfaces are nearly unmarked and glow with rose undertones accompanied by soft mint luster. The strike is razor-sharp except for a few right-side stars that lack their centers. This Choice Uncirculated example is tied at the low end of the Condition Census for the variety according to both the Donald Parsley and Stephen Herrman references (5/17).
