1846 50C Medium Date, Misplaced Date, WB-102, Die Pair 5, R.3, MS64 PCGS. CAC. The idea that certain lumps and artifacts in and around the 6 in the date represent an 1846/5 overdate is generally discounted according to the 2016 reference by Bill Bugert. He suggests a gathering of logotype remnants or perhaps a misplaced 6 between the 4 and 6 account for the anomalies. Variety aside, this near-Gem Medium Date example is scarce and appealing with lustrous, golden-gray surfaces and few marks to be seen. The strike is refreshingly crisp. CAC endorsed. Population: 19 in 64, 2 finer. CAC: 4 in 64, 1 finer (4/17).
