Barber Half Dollars
1902-S 50C MS65 PCGS. The 1902-S Barber half issue is an unheralded condition rarity within the series, likely overshadowed by its proximity to the even-more-elusive 1901-S and the fabled 1904-S. All of these difficult S-mint Barber halves seem to have inflated population numbers that thereby understate their true rarity in the higher Mint State levels. This Gem 1902-S offers powerful luster on ivory-gray surfaces laced with gold and cream patina. A few thin scrapes on Liberty's cheek and the wreath above define the grade. The strike is adequate, save for momentary weakness in the centers of stars 11 and 12 and trivial incompleteness at the upper-right corner of the shield on the reverse. Population: 7 in 65, 12 finer (4/17).
