1879-S $1 Reverse of 1878, VAM-51, MS63 PCGS. A Top 100 Variety. Numerous die markers appear on this variety, including light doubling of the 9 in the date and distinctive die lines in the eagle's wings. This Select Mint State example exhibits the expected smattering of light abrasions for the grade with sharp devices and brilliant surfaces. The obverse is nearly worthy of a Deep Mirror Prooflike designation, although the reverse has a few too many die polishing striations to allow the coin to garner even a Prooflike grade from PCGS. This is a coin that will fit in well with an otherwise Prooflike or Deep Mirror Prooflike Morgan dollar collection.
