Patterns
1850 1C Judd-124h, Pollock-146, High R.7, PR63 Red and Brown PCGS. Struck on only one side, the struck side is from the cent patterns of 1850 with CENT above / 1850 below / a rosette on each side. The center is unperforated. Struck in copper with a plain edge. This piece and its nickel or copper-nickel counterparts were Appendix A pieces in editions 1 through 7 of the Judd reference. The Judd-124g piece that sold in the ANR 1/2004 auction mentions a die crack through the top of the T in CENT. We do not see a crack in that area of this piece, suggesting this copper piece was struck before the nickel or copper-nickel ones. This example was believed by Pollock to be unique, but the 10th edition of Judd lists it as High R.7. The surfaces are bright red with swirls of blue and yellow interspersed over each side.
Unlisted in Adams-Woodin, believed to be ex: Farouk.
