1863 10C Ten Cents, Judd-328, Pollock-398, Cassel-67, High R.7, PR64+ Cameo PCGS. The obverse features the usual heraldic shield with arrows, surrounded by an inverted laurel wreath, with the inscription EXCHANGED FOR U.S. NOTES around. The reverse shows the denomination 10 CENTS in two lines above the date, with the inscriptions POSTAGE CURRENCY and ACT JULY 1862 around. Struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. Various aluminum and copper compositions have been found and some pieces weigh 8 grains while others weigh 11 grains. Recent versions of Judd have simply divided the aluminum pieces into reeded and plain edge versions. This is an exceptionally bright aluminum piece with deeply mirrored fields and heavily frosted devices. Die cracks and planchet irregularities are seen on each side.
