1869 25C Standard Silver Quarter Dollar, Judd-722, Pollock-803, High R.6, PR63 NGC. On the obverse a right-facing Liberty wears a Phrygian cap decorated with three stars at the front. A ribbon bearing the word LIBERTY flows from the base of the cap to Liberty's shoulder. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA borders the upper periphery, with IN GOD WE TRUST in a curved ribbon below. The reverse shows STANDARD SILVER around the upper edge, with 25 / CENTS in an open oak and laurel wreath. The date, 1869, is at the lower periphery. Struck in silver with a plain edge. The silver strikings and the reeded edge copper pieces of this obverse / reverse design are fairly common, but the plain edge copper and both types of aluminum strikings are rare. This is a mostly brilliant coin that displays deeply mirrored fields. Light russet patina encircles the margins on each side.
