1896 5C Five Cents, Judd-1771, Pollock-1986, Low R.6, PR63 PCGS. Charles Barber's design features a shield at the center obverse with LIBERTY incused. Crossed poles behind support a Liberty cap and a tiny eagle. E PLURIBUS UNUM is at the top rim, with stars seven left, six right. On the reverse a large 5 occupies the center with a small CENTS below, an open olive sprig surrounding and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA at the rim. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. Judd-1771 is stated as struck in pure nickel, which is magnetic. This piece is slightly magnetic, so we assume (absent metallurgical analysis) that this piece is not 100% nickel. The fields are bright and there are a number of small contact marks scattered across each side.
