Liberty Double Eagles
1851 $20 AU53 PCGS. With the massive influx of California gold, double eagle production in 1851 topped 2 million pieces, but most did not survive, and Mint State examples are elusive. This representative displays rich orange-gold patina, with moderate underlying mint luster and hints of olive showing up when tilted beneath a light. Only slight wear is seen over the design elements, and a single tick in the obverse field near star 6 is the only mark of note.
