Liberty Double Eagles
1853 $20 AU55 NGC. Both sides display strong detail for a lightly circulated Type One double eagle. Light yellow-gold surfaces retain traces of peripheral luster and scattered marks. Two rim nicks occur near stars 2 and 3. Twenty dollar gold output at the Philadelphia Mint dropped to 1.2 million coins in 1853, down by nearly 800,000 coins over the previous year.
