Liberty Double Eagles
1856-S $20 XF45 PCGS. Recoveries were numerous for the 1856-S from S.S. Central America as well as other from other shipwrecks. This example does not appear to be a seawater salvage coin, but one cannot be certain. It does display plentiful eye appeal for the Choice XF level, with significant luster that remains and orange accents over canary-yellow surfaces. The left serif of U in UNITED is missing and the crossbar of A in STATES was strengthened at the Mint. Minor machine doubling is visible at the legend. Small abrasions dot the surfaces, while moderate wear determines the assigned grade.
