Trajan Decius. ; Trajan Decius; 249-251 AD, Cibyra, Phrygia, Year 226=250/1 AD, AE 35-35.5, 18.20g. RPC-781 (7 spec.). Obv: ?V? ??? G ?E[?] ? ????AN (AIAN legate) ?EKIOC EV? [E?]? ??? Bust laureate, cuirassed r., seen from front. Rx: ????? - ?E?? - ???V????? around, E? / F?? in upper middle field, Demeter standing r. holding long torch and two wheat ears, facing Cibyra standing l., supporting basket on her head with l. hand and holding fold of her drapery with r.; on ground between them, cobra emerging from half-open cista. Ex Empire Coins 6, 14 November 1986, lot 162. From the same dies as RPC-781, spec. 4-6, pl. 51. Large bronzes of Decius at Cibyra apparently all come from just this one obverse die, and all have this Demeter and Cibyra reverse type, though on one reverse die the snake emerging from cista was omitted (RPC-780).
