Herennia Etruscilla. ; Herennia Etruscilla; Perga, Pamphylia, AE 22.5, 7.11g. RPC-1105 (1 spec.), pl. 75 (same dies). Obv: [E]PEN AI - TPO(?)CKI[??A - N CE] Bust draped r., wearing stephane. Rx: ?EPGA - I - ON Tyche standing l. holding rudder and cornucopia. Ex Christian Blom List 44, November 1968, no. 395. Very rare: only one specimen (Lindgren/Kovacs-1132) recorded by RPC, and ours is from the same dies. Coins of Etruscilla as a class are rare at Perga: RPC records only four such coins, all coming from a single obverse die, with our Tyche reverse type and two other types. RPC transcribes the legend of this obverse die as EPENNIA ETPOYCKI??A CE, but the correct reading, according to our new specimen and the RPC photos, appears to be EPEN AI - TPO(?)CKI??A - N CE,in the accusative not the nominative case and with 'Herennia' abbreviated and 'Etruscilla' differently spelled. The Tyche reverse die of our coin was also used for Trajan Decius, RPC-1102, pl. 75.
