Trajan Decius. ; Trajan Decius; 249-251 AD, Antiochia, Pisidia, AE 23.5-24, 8.50g. From Krzyzanowska's Rv. 13, but a new obv. die for Decius at Antioch. Obv: IMP (P backwards) CAES G MESS Q DIICIO TR A (reading of last 6 letters uncertain) Radiate, draped, cuirassed bust r. Rx: ANTIOCH CE COL around, S R (letters backwards) in exergue, Vexillum surmounted by eagle, between two standards also surmounted by eagles. Purchased from Robert Grossman, 26 November 1966. From a new, fifth, obverse die for coins of Decius of this size at Antioch, unknown to Krzyzanowska or RPC. The die has a new obverse type too, combining Decius' long obverse legend with a draped and cuirassed bust. Note the retrograde P in IMP in the obverse legend, and the apparent use of II for E in DIICIO; yet the die certainly seems to be official, since it was coupled with a reverse die that is also known in combination with Krzyzanowska's Av. IV (RPC-1262) and Av. I (RPC-1267).
