Trajan Decius. AE 25-27; Trajan Decius; 249-251 AD, Caesarea, Samaria, AE 25-27, 16.87g. RPC-2057 (9 spec., including ours). Obv: IMP C C MS Q TRA DECIVS AVG Bust laureate, draped, cuirassed r. Rx: COL.PR F AVG.F [C CAES] MET S P Decius riding r. on prancing horse, cloak flying out behind his head, holding spear pointing slightly downward in lowered r. arm; on ground below forelegs of horse, half prostrate enemy (weak on this specimen). Ex CNG 90, 23 May 2012, lot 1222; this coin listed as specimen 8 by RPC-2057. From the same reverse die as RPC pl. 138, 2057/9. The reverse legend calls Caesarea "Metropolis of Syria Palestina".
