BRITISH TOKENS FROM THE COLLECTION FORMED BY THE LATE JEFFREY GARDINER (PART II)

BRITISH TOKENS, 19th Century Tokens, NORTHUMBERLAND, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, John Bell, Farthing (?), 1815, in lead, city arms, rev. shop-front, edge plain, 8.93g/12h (Davisson, CTCJ 66, p.7; W p.134; D 18). Very fine and extremely rare; sold as viewed and not subject to return £200-300

---

The status of this and the following piece is uncertain. Withers opined that they are fantasy pieces struck for collectors (of whom John Bell was one) but Davisson has shown that they are apparently of the period, or at least date to some time in the early 19th century
