Japan
Meiji 5 Sen Year 3 (1870) MS67 PCGS, KM-Y1, JNDA 01-33, shallow scales. A spectacular example of this popular first type. The appearance is absolutely spectacular, with boldly defined devices, and surfaces free of post-striking flaws. Both sides exhibit fully original, gleaming mint luster beneath amazing gold and steel-blue patina. It is difficult to imagine a finer example, although one piece has received a higher grade. We doubt that it is superior to this incredibly appealing jewel.
