Pupienus, 238. Denarius (Silver, 20 mm, 2.65 g, 12 h), Rome. IMP C M CLOD PVPIENVS AVG Laurate, draped and cuirassed bust of Pupienus to right, seen from behind. Rev. PROVIDENTIA DEORVM Providentia standing left, holding wand over globe with right hand and cornucopia in left. Cohen 33 = RIC 7. Of the highest rarity. Some minor flatness on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.
This is a very interesting coin: it is either a hybrid issue with a reverse of Balbinus (RIC 7), or the corresponding Denarius to Pupienus' Providentia Sestertius (RIC 17). Either way, it is of the highest rarity.
