THRACO-MACEDONIAN REGION. Uncertain. Circa 480-450 BC. Hemidrachm (Silver, 13 mm, 2.42 g). Forepart of Pegasus with curved wing to left. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. SNG Paris 1118 (same obverse die, but as 'Lampsakos'). SNG von Aulock 7389 (as 'Lampsakos'). Rare. Very fine.
From a German collection, assembled since the 1960s.
This issue is usually attributed to Lampsakos in Mysia, where the forepart of a Pegasus is a common type especially in the electrum coinage. Stylistically, however, an origin in the Thraco-Macedonian region is more likely.
