China Hua-Hsing Commercial Bank 10 Yuan ND (1938) J99a. The storied note featuring the (vulgar) wise man that was never circulated, as almost all prepared examples were lost at sea. These notes were subsequently salvaged, hence the faded condition of all examples on the market today. The strong embossing can still be seen, though some inks have faded. An example of this in Fine 12 previously sold for $13,145 in Hong Kong, which had much more faded colors. This is an enticing PMG Choice Fine 15 Net example, the highest known by either service, with full paper and inks. Environmental damage and a tear are noted. HID08701242017
