China Deutsch-Asiatische Bank Hankow $50 1.3.1907 Pick S265s Specimen. A trophy note if there ever was one with this Specimen grading PMG About Uncirculated 55. This is the highest denomination of this brief issue. The main duties of this bank were trade financing and underwriting Chinese bonds for railroad construction. The parent bank was founded in 1889 in Shanghai and the Hankow branch opened in 1897. Note issue permission was not granted by the German government until 1906. The DAB was closed due to World War I. It would reopen in 1923, but it did not issue any notes after the 1907 issue. This note has an eye-catching design where Germania is in the main vignette, but she shares this note with both a Chinese dragon and a German eagle. The last example that crossed the auction block that we know of was in 2012. That raw AU piece realized $20,876. In 2017, we see this splendid note having the hammer fall in the range of...
