Phrygia, Laodikeia. Tiberius (or possibly Augustus?). A.D. 14-37. AE 20 (19.55 mm, 5.81 g, 11 h). Dioskourides, Magistrate. [ΣΕ]ΒΑ[Σ]-ΤΟΣ, bare head of Tiberius (possibly Augustus?) right / ΔΙ[ΟΣΚ]ΟΥ[ΡΙΔΗΣ] - [Λ]ΑΟΔΙΚΕΩ[Ν], legend vertically downward to right and left of Zeus Laodiceus standing facing, head left, holding eagle and staff; [KOP] in monogram in field to right. RPC 2906. VF / near VF, green patina with pebbly texture, scant legends.
RPC is not completely certain if these coins with only ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΣ identifying the portrait might actually be Augustus or, as is thought more likely, Tiberius at the time, early in his reign, when he wished to be portrayed looking as much like Augustus as possible.
