Michael VIII Palaeologus, as Emperor of Nicaea, 1258-1261. Hyperpyron (Gold, 26 mm, 4.14 g, 6 h), Constantinople, 1261-1282. The Virgin orans within city walls furnished with six groups of towers. Rev. St. Michael on left presenting kneeling emperor to Christ enthroned on right, holding scroll. SB 2242. Nice, attractive and well-centered. Some graffito on reverse and with the usual striking flatness, otherwise. Good very fine.
