KINGS OF MACEDON. Kassander, 305-298 BC. (Bronze, 17 mm, 3.56 g, 5 h), Asia minor mint?, c. 301 BC. Helmeted head of Athena to right. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΚΑΣΣΑΝΔΡΟΥ Club and bow in bowcase. SNG Cop. 1159. Lovely dark glossy patina. About extremely fine.
Very interesting example is overstruck on a bronze issue of Philip III with the types of macedonian shield / macedonian helmet. This series are mainly overstruck on coins of Philip III and originate from the east Asia Minor area. One might be tempted to associate the minting of this series with the Cassander's exhibition to Asia Minor and the battle of Ipsus.
