1942-D 5C D Over Horizontal D, FS-501, MS65 PCGS. The 1942- D Over Horizontal D "is the rarest of the major Jefferson nickel varieties in Mint State" according to the Cherrypickers' Guide. The mintmark was initially punched into the die horizontally by inexperienced wartime staff, then corrected. This delightful Gem is sharply detailed and lustrous, with well-preserved surfaces throughout. Population: 9 in 65 (1 in 65+), 1 finer (5/17).
